RIPLEY MORRIS
Dancing in the “Cotswold” tradition with a touch of
“Lower Balby” thrown into the mix.
Morris Dancing is of unknown origin: it may be an ancient pagan ritual and it’s ancestry is a matter of much debate, however it is thought that the bells and handkerchiefs frighten away evil spirits which ensure that the crops grow and children are plentiful.
We hope you will not be scared and might be encouraged to join us or watch us dancing around Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and further
Ripley Morris are based in Ripley in Derbyshire and were formed as a men’s side in
1924. The side flourished until the early 1950's and was then re-formed in 1981.
The side continues to thrive today. The side encourages new women and men wishing
to learn Morris to join us.
